2016 New Year’s Banquet

February 20, 2016  Year of the Monkey New Year’s Banquet.
Once again a sell out crowd of about 200 attended the annual Canada-China Friendship Society Banquet held at the Mandarin Ogilvie Restaurant in Ottawa.  Several people from the Chinese Embassy were in attendance including  Wentian Wang, Deputy Chief of Mission, who brought greetings from Ambassador Luo Zhaohui.  In his remarks he extended Chinese New Year’s greetings to the guests and briefed them on the latest developments in China-Canada relations. He applauded CCFS’s important contribution to the friendly relations between China and Canada.

In her toast, Anita Vandenbeld MP extended festive greetings to the guests on behalf of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Canadian government and expressed thanks to the Chinese Embassy for its support to the Canada-China Friendship Society. She also presented Spring Festival souvenirs to the guests who were in a Year of the Monkey.

The Embassy was one of the main contributors to the silent auction which raised funds for CCFS-O projects.  Other sponsors included Maison Birks, Nectar Fine Teas, McGarry Family Chapel, Mandarin Ogilvie Restaurant, Penny’s Pearls, Tim Hortons, Tsingtao Beer Canada, Sopa Soups, T & T Supermarket, International Pilot Academy  and a number of CCFS-O members who donated items for the silent auction.

Guests were treated to entertainment by singer Ying Birks. The Master of Ceremonies for the banquet was Cat Situ,  The silent auction and draw for door prizes were conducted by Tracy Tian, Lacey Sheng and Vincent Lacroix-Cuerrier.  The Banquet Co-ordinator was Nataly Azzi.
