In this inaugural year the Film Selection Committee’s first task was to develop the tools and methods for assessing the available films. The first set of consideration addressed the films inherent qualities and impact.
- Would recommend the film to their friends or family
- Did the film shed light on life in China, or its culture or history
- Was the film was well made, which considered such things as the quality of the cinematography, sound, sub-titles and the pacing of the films.
As a result in our inaugural festival you will only find films that the reviewers personally recommend, there are no “Robo Cop” films at the festival, and each film is well made.
The films were also screened for novelty, (the extent to which the films had been screened previously in Ottawa). We are pleased to be able to bring you Soul Mate which is an Ottawa Premiere. Coming Home has had only one short theatrical exposure in Ottawa. The combination of From C to C with its distinguished Discussion Panel is unique.
