One of our members and delegate to the Nanjing conference, Gay Moffett arranged for the delegation to tour two retirement homes in Ottawa–Bridlewood Trails Retirement Communities and the Carling View Manor. Helen Moscicky a CCFS member joined the delegation in Gay’s absence. Helen is a nurse with advanced educational preparation and many years of experience in clinical practice, nursing and client education, and health care management. We were also pleased that Lolan Merklinger, immediate past president, participated in the program and provided in depth interpretation throughout the program. In addition to the business portion the Jiangsu delegation was treated to a personal tour of T&T by Jimmy Wen the T&T Manager which they thoroughly enjoyed. As well CCFS was privileged to have a memorable tour of the Museum of Civilization by Dr. George Macdonald the Museum’s first Director. The itinerary was  concluded by a supper at the Lone Star where the delegation experienced a very Western style meal.  Janice Zaharko the Program Coordinator organized the program for the delegation.

September 2012, Delegation from Centre for Modern Shanghai Studies. Ottawa was included on the Canada/USA tour by a delegation from the Centre for Modern Shanghai Studies. The tour was organized by the Shanghai Friendship Association. The objective of the Shanghai delegation was “… to investigate the Canadian political structure and to understand the Canadian 4-party system in the Canadian political and government operation, how its political powers are set up and operated and how the public participate in national political life, in order to improve our research quality as well as to learn and understand overseas parties and political operation systems.” While their stay in Ottawa was very short the program included a tour of the Parliament Buildings and they were impressed that the guide was able to use some Mandarin. Gary Levy, a CCFS member and on the staff of the House of Commons and Lolan Merklinger joined the tour. The highlight came at the conclusion of the tour as the delegation was treated to a meeting with Hon. Gordon O’Connor, the Chief Government Whip and Minister of State who explained his role in Parliament. The Program was Co-ordinated by Janice Zaharko.
